My Brain as Toast
I have a long running joke that as the semester goes on, my brain resembles a slice of bread in a toaster.
At the beginning of the semester, my brain feels like a nice fresh slide of bread. It has so much potential.
As the semester goes on, teaching (and grad school) start taking their toll. By the midpoint, my brain is starting to look like #8 there. A bit toasty but still OK. This is the stage I refer to as "toasty."
It is the last half of the semester where the true burnout begins. I make my way through the conditions of #9-3. I refer to this stage as "crispy."
So after a stressful semester, I am either at #1 or 2 depending on the severity. This level is referred to as "burnt."
How am I at the end of this semester? Most definitely a #1. Hell, I think my brain is more charcoal than bread at this point. Despite the fact that the semester ended on Wednesday, I am still having problems focusing and all I want to do is sleep for a few days.
It was a stressful semester, but I think my fibromyalgia is playing a role in this as well. I've got the "fibro fog" going on and my energy is in the negative region.
Maybe I should just sleep for a few days. It's not like I have anything to do now.
