When life gives you lemons...
...you know it's time to grab some salt and tequila.
That is actually pretty humorous when it comes from me as I rarely drink. The only times I drink is one margarita at the end of the semester to celebrate and when I visit my family (if you knew my mother, you would understand). However, with the way things have been going for me, I may just grab that tequila and enjoy some shots.
Well, at least while I can...
I found out last week that I need a full hip replacement. While I am not bone-on-bone yet, my arthritis is so bad that I am developing bone spurs in the joint. Heck, I didn't even know that was possible. However, I knew this surgery would eventually happen. Back in the day--a long, long time ago--I shattered my ankle playing ice hockey. Specifically it was a trimalleolar fracture with dislocation (I never knew you could dislocate an ankle either). I just remember the trainer's assistant got so excited when she saw the x-ray as it was "like the coolest thing ever!"
Anyways, I did not see an ankle specialist. Big mistake. The guy who put my ankle together did a good job with the bones but never fixed the damaged soft tissue that is inevitable for this type of injury. This meant my ankle was no longer aligned properly, which fucked up the alignment of my entire leg.
Fast forward 16 years...I am in seeing a knee replacement specialist. He said that because of the misalignment, I developed severe osteoarthritis in that knee that I was bone-on-bone. It explained the severe pain I had gone through but I was only 40 years old. This is not supposed to happen to a 40 year old. He told me that I had a future involving a hip replacement as well but I planned to wait until I turned 50 to even think about that. Ha! My body had a different plan.
So now, I have a hip replacement scheduled for next month.
The worst part? I am finally graduating from my MSW program next month as well and was planning on walking. I missed my previous Master's graduations (yes, multiple) and had hoped to go to this one. Not happening as the surgery is scheduled three days before graduation.
*sigh*
Now where's that tequila?
